Daphne Reid

Daphne Maxwell Reid is a legendary and unique figure in entertainment and fashion. She was the first African-American Homecoming Queen at Northwestern University where she received a degree in Architecture and Design. Daphne was also the first African-American model to ever appear on the cover of Glamour Magazine in 1969. She has been a witness to history. Daphne broke down walls, and built bridges.  After more than 55 years as a working actress, Daphne brings it all - amazingly, in her first leading role in a feature film.  Daphne Maxwell Reid is The Cashier.  She is a recipient of the Women of Vision Award from Women in Film & Video, among a myriad of other awards. Reid is also an accomplished photographer as well as a designer and clothing creator.  In her early career, she appeared in numerous television programs including WKRP in Cincinnati (with husband Tim Reid), The A-Team, Hill Street Blues, T.J. Hooker, Hardcastle and McCormick, Cagney & Lacey, Murder, She Wrote and The Cosby Show. From 1983-1987, Reid appeared as a recurring character on the CBS detective series Simon & Simon. She then starred on two CBS shows: Frank's Place (1987-1988) and Snoops (1989-1990). Her best-known role was on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as Aunt Viv from 1993 to 1996.  Daphne was drawn to the role of Glenda in The Cashier she says, “because of the writing, and the messages of empathy, tolerance and kindness that the character embodies.” She called it “the role of a lifetime”.
